The 2nd in the series of 4 planned movies. It covers the events of episodes 7-20 in the anime series but heads into a new direction with the inclusion of a new female EVA pilot named Mari Makinami. Although I loved the anime series, what I’ve seen so far from the 2 Rebuild movies have been nothing short of sensational. This movie is just epic and introduces my favorite character – the tough talking redhead Asuka Langley. The animation is crisp and the storyline exciting and so compelling. The design on the Angels themselves is fantastic. It finishes just as Third Impact is beginning so I really can’t wait to see the third movie.

Summer Wars (2009)

An excellent anime by the director of the 2006 movie ‘The Girl Who Leapt Through Time’. High school boy Kenji tags along with his older secret crush Natsuki to her grandmother’s 90th birthday party. Natsuki wants him to pretend that he’s her boyfriend. One night, Kenji receives a mysterious email full of numbers. Curiousity takes over and he unwittingly cracks a password to a virtual reality system called OZ. A rogue A.I developed by one of Natsuki’s family takes over OZ which starts interfering with the real world. It gets even worse when it makes a Japanese satellite up in space start falling to Earth with it’s target being a nuclear reactor. Can Kenji stop the satellite from hitting it’s target and prevent a disaster from happening whilst also trying to defeat this A.I before the whole world is destroyed?

Summer Wars is a thrilling anime movie which also delivers the message about the importance of family. The characters including Natsuki’s family are a bunch of eccentrics which you cannot fail to like. The story is engaging and interesting and never once does it get boring. There is comedy and drama and some genuinely moving scenes too.The CGI animation is superb and beautiful to watch. It’s got something for the whole family to enjoy. This is an anime movie that you should not miss out on.

The sequel to Hard Revenge Milly finds our half human half machine anti-heroine being asked by a young woman to find her boyfriend’s killer. She somewhat agrees to the request. Milly finds herself being targeted by two brothers who were associates of Jack whom she killed in the previous movie. She gets more than she bargained for when one of them (also a cyborg) manages to seriously injure her and kidnap the young woman she was training. Rebuilt again with some new weapons at her disposal, Milly is out for revenge the only way she knows how – bloody and brutal!

This was quite a decent sequel though I didn”t think it was on a par with the original. I didn’t find it as entertaining or satisfying. There are a lot of fast fight scenes with some great swordplay which is choreographed rather well. Plenty of blood and guts on display for the gorehounds too. Those that love wall to wall action and over the top violence will love this movie.
